Have you had between 2 and 3 years regular weekly tuition on your instrument?
Are you interested in having a go at playing jazz, funk, blues and pop – and making up (improvising) your own music?
Do you want to explore and play music with a group of girls your own age – with the help of a jazz band of friendly professional musicians?
Come along to the Girl Plays Jazz workshop on Saturday 17th March 2018 – at the New Unity Hall on Upper Street, Islington, London N1 2TZ.
The session will be from 2 to 4.30pm – and costs just £35!

The Girl Plays Jazz Project is dedicated to the support and promotion of girls and young women in jazz. We offer weekend and summer courses to to introduce girls to jazz, blues, funk and pop improvisation, and to develop them as jazz musicians. We are delighted to announce our first Masterclass with the brilliant Sara McGuiness on 1 December 2018 at the New Unity Hall, Upper Street. We are very lucky to have Sara run an Afro Cuban masterclass for the girls. This is a brilliant opportunity for the girls to learn from a top level professional.
Sara McGuinness combines a career as a musician and educator. She is an established figure on the UK Latin Music scene, winning the 2018 UK Lukas Award ‘Musician of the Year’. Her band, Grupo Lokito, the subject of her practice based research into the dynamic relationship between Cuban and Congolese music, won the UK Lukas Award ‘Tropical Act of the Year’ in 2017. She also leads Cuban band Sarabanda and a community based Cuban Big Band Orquesta Estelar. Sara teaches an annual Cuban Music Course in Havana, Cuba and a Cuban Music Summer School in London. Sara teaches Performance and Recording at the London College of Music and the School of Oriental and African Studies.
