On Saturday 16th March from 2 to 4.30 pm, our brilliant Brazilian house drummer Cyro Zuzi will run a samba drumming class for the girls (essential for the girls’ rhythmic ability) – at St Stephen’s Church, Canonbury. The cost is £15. Please get in touch if you would like to register.
On 11th May we are delighted that Andy Ruiz Palma and the vintage jazz band La Bouche Manouche will bring a touch of class to Girl Plays Jazz Project with a gypsy jazz workshop for girls aged 8 to 16 – all instruments welcome, but this will particularly help our strings players and clarinets find their chops – at St Stephen’s Canonbury. https://www.labouchemanouche.co.uk

In August/early September we are planning a visit to a recording studio where the girls learn about how the music works and get to record a track. Places are limited so please get in touch if you are interested in this.
In September, we are delighted that the celebrated drummer Michele Drees will bring the Michele Drees Jazz Tap Project to Girl Plays Jazz – to host a masterclass for the beginner girls aged 8 to 16 in the art of jazz tap improvisation with a live jazz band – musicians and tap dancers welcome!
In November, we are honoured to have the international, multi-award winning musician – baritone player, arranger, composer, bandleader and educator Issie Barratt to lead a masterclass for the beginner girls. Issie Barratt was recently ranked number 38 in the BBC’s powers list of the top 40 most influential women in music today. She is the bandleader of Interchange – a stella line of up of some of the leading musicians on the London jazz scene.
The cost of our workshops is £35 to pay for the considerable skill and expertise of our 6 piece house band. Free places are always available for those on low incomes.
